This Work & Life Preferences (WLP) questionnaire is designed to assess how your
thinking and acting preferences map onto the requirements of your current position and
onto those you may hold in the future. Consequently, feedback will give you a better
understanding of how you can best contribute in your current and potential future
position(s).
The WLP is divided into five short Sections. The first asks for some demographic
information and establishes a "Frame-of-Reference" to use in responding to many
items in remaining Sections.
Section 2 asks questions about the nature of the work you most and least prefer to
perform, which provides the basis for partially determining the type of positions you
would be most comfortable being placed in.
Section 3 assesses your 'World View.' Some people prefer to develop an understanding of
their world by systematically assembling a wide body of facts and then inductively
building from them a broader 'picture.' On the other hand, others prefer to develop a
theory about how aspects of reality operate and why, based upon subjective experiences,
and then deductively infer what data are needed to confirm or infirm them. Some use a
combination of both approaches, which are of probably equivalent value in achieving the
common objective of understanding.
Section 4 asks questions about the activities you like and dislike to engage in or points
to how you prefer to learn about certain life experiences.
The last Section assesses how well you can mentally visualize objects in space and process
this form of information. In part, this ability determines how effectively
individuals can solve unstructured or non-deterministic problems.
